The utilisation of agro-waste as alternative fuel sources to meet local energy needs in Ghana
|Oil Palm briquettes could be described as comparatively clean fuel in terms of CO, CO2 emissions and though smoky at start-up, present a step change towards emission reductions and wood savings in Ghana
Although the preparation method had an effect on its combustion behaviour, the non-homogeneity of the fuel presented some difficulties in setting clearly defined attributes of each make.
Advantage of briquette over loose fibre was more tended towards CO2 reduction and longer burn times.
Percentage difference in emission factor of briquette and charcoal was so high in favour of briquette that it calls for further investigation.
Some of the results in the report may not reflect actual measurements as there was found to be some inconsistent errors from analyser settings/calibration. It is recommended that combustion methods used be investigated again and a water boiling test be performed.
