EPSRC / NSF Clean Water for All China Visit June 2015

Dick Fenner and Malcolm Morgan spent a week in China hosted by Nottingham University's Ningbo campus, about 3 hours drive south of Shanghai, from 14-20 June. This was the culmination of the EPSRC / NSF Clean Water for All initiative which enabled a team of researchers from the UK (including Malcolm and Dick) to work with colleagues from Portland State University and Reed College,  Oregon on issues relating to the use of green infrastructure for flood management in Portland. As well as disseminating the results of the 1 year project participants from the UK and the  USA visited flood management sites in the city of Ningbo, and an extensive eco-park intstallation.  The schedule included  a UK-US-China symposium on urban water and  flood risk management which was attended by local Ningbo city planners and utility operators and representatives of WHR, Beijing. The visit was part of the wider Blue Green Cities project which is currently working in Newcastle, UK as a demonstration city to apply many of the ideas generated from the 2014 Portland case study, which formed the basis of the workshop deliberations in Ningbo.  Simon Spooner a former Cambridge MPhil graduate and currently working for Atkins in Beijing also attended the event in his role as Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham , Ningbo.
