MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development

The Engineering for Sustainable Development MPhil is one of the courses that is eligible for funding under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Cambridge.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is designed to provide talented students from economically marginalised and hard-to-reach communities in Africa with fully-funded opportunities to complete their Master’s training, grow in transformative leadership, and contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in Africa. It covers the cost of University fees, travel and visas, and a maintenance stipend.

If you wish to apply for the Scholars Program for the 2024-25 academic year you should complete the following steps:

  1. Apply for admission to the University via the course directory and indicate that you wish to apply for funding.  The funding deadline for the ESD MPhil course is 23:59 (GMT) on the 5th of December 2023. 
  2. Submit a Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme Statement

As part of the application process in the University's graduate application portal, students are asked to select funding bodies they are interested in applying to. A range of options are presented to the applicant.   1. There is a £50 application fee for Master’s courses.  This fee should be waived automatically for applicants of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars programme.

Please note that you must submit the scholarship statement to benefit from the automatic waiver and that the fee waiver will only be applied to ONE course application per individual. Students who do not get an automatic waiver and are certain they meet all conditions of the Scholars programme are invited to contact the Mastercard Foundation Scholars team by submitting a help request: Submit Request

An understanding of mechanisms for managing change in organisations so future engineers are equipped to play a leadership role.

Tools

An awareness of a range of assessment frameworks, sustainability metrics and methodologies such as Life Cycle Analysis, Systems Dynamics, Multi-Criteria Decision making and Impact Assessment.
