MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development

This module will expose students to challenges in communication, negotiation and engagement with stakeholders holding a variety of perspectives.

The focus will be on experiential learning that encourages students to adopt and explore different stakeholder perspectives and develop strategies for communication and negotiation in different environments. Students will have the opportunity to explore the mutual gains approach to negotiation, and explore contemporary industry challenges as part of a policy inquiry adopting and engaging with perspectives which may be different from their own.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Explore communication and stakeholder perspectives in a variety of problem contexts,
  • Engage with the mutual gains approach to negotiation and consensus building,
  • Critically evaluate the process, evidence and outcomes of an inquiry-based dialogue.

Coursework includes:

  • A group presentation pitch on a policy topic
  • A reflection on the process of finding agreement across different stakeholder perspectives
