The Impact of Telecommunications

Catherine Mulligan

The Impact of Telecommunications

This dissertation performs multidisciplinary research into the impact of ICT on low income earners in China. While there is a large body of anecdotal evidence into the benefits of ICT rollout, limited empirical evidence into its impacts on low-income earners’ lives exists. In order to understand which ICT services to develop, it is vital to understand these impacts. This paper aims to redress this imbalance and widen the scope of discussion of ICT in developing nations beyond which technology is most appropriate and towards how best to shape access for low-income earners to wider society through ICT.
