Engineering Education for Sustainable Development Conference 2020

The Engineering Education for Sustainable Development EESD 2020 conference will be hosted by University College Cork, 7th - 10th June 2020

Engineering Education for Sustainable Development (EESD2020) is the 10th iteration of a biennial international conference, since its inception in 2002.

The conference attracts engineering educators and academics from all over the world with an interest in embedding sustainability in the curriculum.

University College Cork (UCC) will host the conference in June 2020, the first time it has been held in Ireland, on the theme ‘Building Flourishing Communities’.

Prof. Dick Fenner will be hosting a workshop revisiting the Barcelona Declaration.

Course Overview

Context

The need to engage in better problem definition through careful dialogue with all stakeholder groups and a proper recognition of context.

Perspectives

An ability to work with specialists from other disciplines and professional groups acknowledging that technical innovation and business skills also must be understood, nurtured and combined as precursors to the successful implementation of sustainable solutions.

Change

An understanding of mechanisms for managing change in organisations so future engineers are equipped to play a leadership role.

Tools

An awareness of a range of assessment frameworks, sustainability metrics and methodologies such as Life Cycle Analysis, Systems Dynamics, Multi-Criteria Decision making and Impact Assessment.
