MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development

The Engineering for Sustainable Development MPhil is one of the courses that is eligible for funding under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Cambridge.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is designed to provide talented students from economically marginalised and hard-to-reach communities in Africa with fully-funded opportunities to complete their Master’s training, grow in transformative leadership, and contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in Africa. It covers the cost of travel and visas, accommodation, meals, allowance for a laptop, health cover, and a living stipend.

If you wish to apply for the Scholars Program for to 2023-24 academic year you should complete the following steps:

  1. Apply for admission to the University via the course directory and indicate that you wish to apply for funding.  The funding deadline for the ESD MPhil course is 1st December 2022.

 

  1. Complete the separate Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application form stating how you meet the eligibility criteria as soon as possible and by 5th January 2023 at the latest.

 

  1. There is a £50 application fee for Master’s courses.  This fee is automatically waived for many African countries (see the country list in Section 3 on the University fee waiver page), but if you are from a country that does not qualify for an automatic fee waiver you can apply for a manual fee waiver by completing the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Fee Waiver Form and returning it to mastercardfdnscholars@admin.cam.ac.uk
  • If you wish to be considered for a fee waiver to apply for the ESD MPhil programme then you should submit your fee waiver request before you submit your application to the University and by the 25th of November 2022
  • If you have missed the deadline for a fee waiver and you wish to apply for a reimbursement of your application fee instead, then you should submit your application by the 5th of January 2022

An understanding of mechanisms for managing change in organisations so future engineers are equipped to play a leadership role.

Tools

An awareness of a range of assessment frameworks, sustainability metrics and methodologies such as Life Cycle Analysis, Systems Dynamics, Multi-Criteria Decision making and Impact Assessment.
