Facilities Management guidelines for Sustainable Mixed Use Developments

The ability for facilities management to positively influence the sustainability of buildings in-use is affected to a large extent by building design.  Aspects of this have been examined by the compilation and benchmarking of case studies covering a range of building types including residential, office, and  university, and an investigation of best practice design has been carried out.  Guidelines have been drawn up and are presented for use by traditional design teams to encourage facilities management issues to be taken into greater consideration at the design stage of projects.  It is hoped that their application will lead to the construction of more operationally sustainable developments.
