MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development

global challenges, engineering solutions

In addition to the formal assessed programme, a series of weekly discussions are held for all students on the MPhil course.  The purpose of these meetings is to explore themes of Sustainable Development in a less formal setting and to share the experiences of individual members of the group.

The programme is intended to be flexible and will provide space for students to reflect on the issues that emerge from the taught programme.  In this respect there are opportunities for the MPhil students to lead the discussions and activities and suggest topics they wish to examine further.  The seminars are used for occasional industrial guest speakers who will examine the delivery of sustainable development from the perspective of practicing engineers.  Sessions include topics on themes such as environmental ethics, sustainability indicators, developing country and global poverty issues.

A second occasional seminar series will provide information on specific aspects of the course.  Topics will include: careers, choosing a dissertation topic, research methodology, presentation and communication skills, etc.
